Who Can You Turn To If You Want To End A Pregnancy?

The thought of an unplanned pregnancy can be a terrifying and overwhelming situation for any woman. An abortion clinic is a good place to begin your search. Abortion clinics are operated by doctors and nurses who specialize in the abortion procedure.
It takes courage to make a decision that is in the best interest of all parties involved in a pregnancy situation. In many cases, an terminating a pregnancy is the best choice regardless of any other points of view people may have.
Abortion clinics assume every woman has the right to choose when an abortion is desirable. Physicians at an abortion clinic will perform a number of tests to determine the health of a patient as well as an ultrasound to determine the gestational age of the pregnancy.
When a pregnancy is less than 7 weeks advanced, a non-surgical procedure can usually be administered. An FDA approved drug is administered while at the clinic. The woman is sent home to relax in the comfort of her own home while the abortion process begins. Two days following the initial drug, another set of pills is taken. This procedure is considered 95% effective, but must be followed up by an examination to confirm that the abortion has taken place.
When a surgical procedure is required it can be done with a local anesthetic or a full anesthetic. The preferred method is usually left up to each individual woman. Knowledgeable staff at the clinic can advise the pregnant woman on the best course of action. Regardless of how she decides to proceed, any anesthetic will be administered by a certified registered nurse anesthetist.
The actual procedure usually doesn’t take more than about 15 minutes. The dilation process is fairly simple and usually involves taking a pill or inserting a pill into the vagina. An abortion performed under a local anesthetic is not painful.
A general anesthetic is usually preferred by woman who are not comfortable with the procedure. A professional staff will ensure a woman is well cared for during her visit to an abortion clinic. Counseling services are available as well for those who need someone to talk to.
