Condom quality is very important in the fight against STDs. Brand name condoms go through extensive quality control tests at every stage of manufacturing. In the US, condoms are electronically tested for holes and defects. Samples are also taken from each lot and visually examined using a water leak test. In this test the samples are filled with 300 ml of water and suspended for 3 minutes. Also, samples from each lot undergo an Air Inflation Test. The test condoms are filled with air until they reach the bursting point. They typically will hold about 40 liters of air -- the equivalent of 9 gallons of water! Other samples are checked for size and thickness. Still others are tested to destruction for physical strength, and some are even artificially aged by applying high temperatures to ensure that they will retain their quality well beyond their 5 year product life. Junk Food Ban in Arizona schools may be modifiedFeb 11, 2006 - Linknet Health News Junk Food Ban in Arizona schools may be modified Feb 11, 2006 - Linknet Health News - The sponsor of a bill being considered by the Arizona state legislature that would ban junk food and soft drinks in high schools is responding to criticism by offering a "slimmed-down" version.== Natural Snacks from Healthy Vending Supplier == In the new version of the bill, schools would be given money in exchange for getting rid of junk food and high sugar soft drinks. The first 50 high schools to sign up for the voluntary program would get one-time bonuses of $50,000 as an incentive to switch to healthful snacks and drinks in their snack bars and vending machines. Representatives to the bill are "appalled" that the state would give incentives to schools for switching their snacks. They claim decisions about what to serve are best made by local school boards. But those decisions are often driven by financial considerations. Moving lucrative snack and soft drink vending machines out of schools results in a direct loss of revenue. Predictably, the Arizona Beverage Association is opposed to the latest version of the bill. A representative for the group claims the organization already has guidelines in place for high school vending machines, including devoting at least 50 percent of the slots to a mix of nutritious and low-calorie beverages. However, many parents like the proposal. They agree that the $50,000 incentive would help offset loss in funding because sales of junk-food snacks generate thousands of dollars for high schools.
