Headings: Few Words Can Reveal A Lot About Your Website

by Alex Perez Prat

When people get on the internet to look for specific information, they will use a search to find exactly what they are looking for. Once they are able to see which particular sites contain the information they seek, they become better at searching, looking through, and choosing the information they want to access. In short, people become more proficient at using search engines.

You can improve the user experience in a content rich website by paying more attention to the article headings. The headings play a vital role in two ways-one when the user is already surfing the website and the other highlights the usefulness of the website in advertisements, search results etc. This helps in driving visitors to the website.

In hypertext protocol (HTML), headings are pieces of text that have rich contents. Headings usually contain primary keywords that express the general topic of the website. Generally speaking, a heading is a line or hierarchical label that gives the users simple information about the content of the website, alongside other relevant information with respect to the nature of this content.

When you are looking for certain websites, heading will play an important role in whether or not the page turns up at all in the results of any search engine inquiry. When search engines look through the Internet for per tenant information and/or related websites, they tend to take into account the heading. Thus, headings are very important. This means that for your website to be search engine optimized, you must put major keywords in your heading that truly reflect the contents of the page.

Moreover, aside from the HTML content rich code headings, it's also important to put primacy upon the heading that is present within the main text body displayed on the website. This is the huge hierarchical label or title that gives the readers an idea of what is contained in the page.

The in-text headings are very important in search engine results since the headings are what most search engines use to identify the individual links taken from the search. The reason this is important is because this will determine if users finds the heading relevant to the search they are looking for. So in short, by offering an already efficient heading, you are making your web page accessible and usable to all the potential users out there. They will reward you by visiting your site.

Once you are in the website, the headings are what guides you through the different areas to explore contents. Therefore, the website should contain headings to effectively reflect the contents of each page. In this way, the website will be used more as well as being more accessible. People will not return to a web page if the information has been misleading or just simply not there as they were lead to believe.

An additional purpose for headings on your site is that they can divide all the content into manageable chunks which makes it easier for your readers to scan the data. Frequently, your visitors only want to read some of your text rather than every little bit of it. If they have headings to guide them, your site will feel much more user-friendly because it will obviously be showing concern for their convenience.

Moreover, it gives users a general idea about the hierarchical structure of the website and how information is organized. The flow of this information, and the understanding of the users of this particular flow, is of importance to users as this could very well determine their understanding of the concepts explored in the information presented.

Headings make an article easier to scan for information. It tells people that they can pick and choose to read under selected headings and still understand the content, even though they aren't reading the entire article.

When pages with mainly text have a smaller section devoted to the table of contents near the top of the page, it is convenient to make use of headings to divide the rest of the page into these sections. The advantage of this is that it allows users to see an overview of what the website contains simply and directly, and give them a general understanding in advance. Link-activating the table of content is also beneficial, as it means that users are able to move ahead to only the details they require.

In the end, headings increase the usability of a website by simplifying and organizing the information available to users in a convenient format. It allows users to find the information that they are looking for through the use of a search engine, and once they enter the website, to quickly and easily scan through text to get the information they need in a timely and efficient manner.
